Japanese Cars continue to dominate national auto market

Cars sales in Indonesia continued to show a significant increase. After a decline of September sales due the Lebaran Day holiday, the car sales in October rose again. Based on the wholesales data (car sales from distributors to dealers), car sales reached 52,230 units this month, up 40% of sales in September books that only 37,206 units.

In total, wholesales from January to October 2009 reached 389,700 units while the total industry volume in 2009 is predicted to reach 430 thousand units, or down 30% of total sales in 2008 reached 607 thousand units. But if we look at the positive trend shown by the national car sales expected until the end of year sales could exceed the initial target and can be reached 460 thousand units.
From the wholesales data that we have, shows that Japanese cars are still a favorite car and keep control of the national auto market. From the top ten selling cars in 2009, 8 of which are sole distributor of Japanese cars in the order of rank one and so on as follows: Toyota, Daihatsu, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Honda, Nissan, Isuzu, Hino and Ford (American car) ninth was followed by Mercedes Benz (European Car) rated a ten. Meanwhile, Korean cars like Kia or Hyundai and other Asian brands such as Chery and Proton still not able to enter the top ten national auto market. Japanese cars control 94.8% of national car sales, while the Korean and other Asian cars have only 2.3% and the rest is owned by American and European cars.
Toyota still led the Indonesian automotive market with sales of 20,619 units in the month of October or a total of 150,105 units and controls 38.5% market share. Toyota Avanza and Toyota Kijang Innova is still a biggest contribution to the sales of Toyota cars. Besides Toyota Yaris had just won the Best of the Best Car award in the event of Indonesian Car of The Year 2009 also continued to show high sales. Other Toyota products also become a leader in its segment is New Vios, Corolla Altis, New Camry, Fortuner and Toyota Rush.
While in the second rank, Daihatsu is also marketed by a subsidiary of Astra International, PT. Astra Daihatsu Motor managed to strengthen the dominance of Astra in the national automotive industry by achieving 15.7% market share or sales 61,274 units. Daihatsu has succeeded to increasing market share from only 13% in the year 2008 because of Daihatsu Xenia remains a favorite family car in Low MPV segment, and also the presence of new products such as GranMax and the Luxio as family consumer choice.
In the commercial car segment, Mitsubishi through its flagship product is the Colt Diesel and Fuso Truck continue to lead the market and make sales for Mitsubishi reached 6,297 units in the month of October and the total recorded sales of 48,225 units during the year 2009. In addition to Colt Diesel and Fuso who contributed more than 50%, other Mitsubishi products are also a major contribution is the L300 and T120SS pick-up, Double Cabin L200, Pajero Sport, Grandis and Lancer.
