New Regulation of Emission Control in Year 2010

By Ali Budiman

Jakarta administration will impose new regulations on vehicle emissions control in year 2010. After a delayed several times and with the harvest of controversy, the pros and cons, the government of DKI Jakarta and BPLHD or Badan Pengendalian Lingkungan Hidup Daerah (Environment Management Agency Region) will still impose emissions control regulations with more stringent standards for auto vehicles and who do not meet exhaust emissions standards that have been established will be subject to sanctions a ticket.

And in preparation for enactment of new legislation, the government of DKI Jakarta and BPLHD, in cooperation with the police and transportation agencies had socialized to people who use private car and public transport drivers. Some forms of socialization that includes:

- Working together with some sole distributor of car brands, auto dealers and auto club including Astra World, AXIC, Suzuki Owner, and others conduct free emissions test.

- Working closely with the police and transportation agencies to test vehicle emissions on public roads in some area.

- Co-Working with Pertamina to conduct free emissions test for every purchase pertamax fuel.

- Impose special parking for vehicles which have emission test sticker.

In principle, the rules contain exhaust gas levels should we support this because it will make Jakarta have a better air clean and healthy. What is the content of the exhaust gases which recommended it depends on the type of vehicle. Here are the rules regarding the content of vehicle exhaust emissions levels:

HC (Hydro Carbon) CO (Carbon Monoxide)
production below year 2007 n < 700 ppm 3%
production after year 2007 n < 200 ppm 1.5%

Meanwhile, if the levels of vehicle exhaust emissions exceed a predefined standard, then the ticket and the driver will be fined 2 million or 3 months imprisonment. In order for the drivers to conduct exhaust emissions levels, the government in cooperation with the auto dealers has appointed more than 230 auto workshops implementing emissions test. Later vehicles had passed the emissions test will be given a sticker book and pass marks.
