Sole distributor of Chevrolet cars in Indonesia, PT. General Motors Autoworld Indonesia or also known as GMAI is optimistic with its new cars, Chevrolet Spark. This city car targeted to be sold 125 units per month until the end of the year, or total of seven hundred units in year 2010. With the addition of new cars, General Motor Indonesia raised its car sales target this year 2010 of 3,500 units to 4,500 units.

Mr. Mukiat Sutikno as Managing Director of GM Indonesia said the new sales target can be achieved if the demand is maintain and supply process had gone smoothly. According to GAIKINDO sales report from January to May 2010, total sales of Chevrolet cars in Indonesia have reached 1,830 units. Mukiat Sutikno said that they obtained a quota of 125 units per month. The import duty of Chevrolet Spark is 35 percent of landed cost since completely built up (CBU) imported from South Korea, also said by Mukiat when introducing Spark in Nusa Dua, Bali.

While, Harry Yanto as Manager of Product Planning & Business Development Manager of GM Indonesia, added that the city car market every year just one percent of total car sales in Indonesia since the city car market is estimated that only 7,000 to 8,000 units per year or six hundred per month. Harry also said that Chevrolet Spark becomes a very fresh product. Nowadays, the city car market is saturated with existing models and consumers are much smarter.

Meanwhile, seeing the ever increasing demand for automatic transmission variant, GMAI plans to offer new variants of Spark, which is a semi-automatic. This new variant is a development of 5-speed manual version. GMAI will find a local supplier that is able to change the manual transmission has a component like an automatic car. They will be the original equipment manufacturing or OEM for Chevrolet in Indonesia.

Thus, in order to operate semi-automatic the products which are supplied using a 5-speed manual transmission will be modified at the car factory of Chevrolet in Pondok Ungu, Bekasi. The local vendor selection using GM’s quality standards, so quality of the products is assured. GM Indonesia expected the semi-automatic version is also can appear on the auto show of IIMS 2010 simultaneously with the manual version. The price of semi-automatic version is not more than to up to ten million rupiah from the manual version which priced at IDR 139 millions.
