Honda Freed, New MPV from Honda
PT. Honda Prospect Motor, sole distributors of Honda cars in Indonesia, is now preparing Honda Freed, and plan to launch on June 29, 2009, before Indonesia International Motor Show 2009. After introduced to the media in March 2009, PT. Honda Prospect Motor invited journalist to test drives Honda Freed in Bali Island on June 2009 . The journalist from various media may feel and enjoying performance, comfortable, and new experience within driving a seven-seater MPV.
Honda Freed is specifically designed to accommodate seven-passengers and using same platform with Honda Jazz. With length of 4,215 meters, width of 1,700 meters, and height of 1,735 meters; it’s bigger than Toyota Avanza but smaller than Nissan Grand Livina and Toyota Kijang Innova. The appearance of the Honda Freed looks stylish and luxurious, using electronic sliding door in both of passenger side, and place antenna at back right roof has suitable with auto trends in Japan.
The interior design is spacious and futuristic. gear transmission shift place on the dashboard, the second row seats are adjustable and third row seat may to flip-up. The dashboard design is “table type” to get the more space and attractive appearance.
Honda Freed use same engine with Honda Jazz and Honda City, i-VTEC 1.5 liter engine, give 118 PS/6,600rpm and 144Nm/4,800rpm. Even that, Honda Prospect Motors claim its engine already modified and has been adjust to carry over seven passengers and load more.
Honda Freed to won 6 stars, highest honors in the Japan New Car Assessment Car Program (JNCAP) because of has high level safety features. The safety features are air-Bag with Pretension safety belts, ISOFIX points for child seats, supported by tougher chassis (G-CON), and pedestrian protection body.
The retail price of Honda Freed is Rp. 260 million, on the road Jakarta. Although this car is lately introduced, does not mean it should be taken lightly. Honda confident that car will acceptable by Indonesia auto market. Despite the dimension and engine capacity is same segment with Toyota Avanza and Nissan Grand Livina 1.5, Honda Freed will head to head with Toyota Kijang Innova (Rp. 198 ~ Rp. 285 Mills) and Nissan Grand Livina 1.8 (Rp. 208 ~ Rp. 241.5 Mills).
Honda Freed is manufactured in Karawang, West Java and will be exported to the South East Asian region and various Asian nations. Since firstly introduced in Japan in May 2008 until February 2009, the total sales of unit of the Honda Freed in Japan alone reach 60,035 units. Besides Japan, Indonesia will be the first country has to launch Honda Freed.
