The Two of largest India car maker, “Tata Motor Limited” and “Mahindra & Mahindra Limited” interested enter to Indonesia auto market. These statements come from Dilip Chenoy as Director of SIAM, the Society of India Automobile Manufacturers who attends the 4th Indonesia Automotive Conference, in Jakarta International Expo, Kemayoran on Thursday, July 23, 2009. They are see that Indonesia auto market more potential since this country is one of three countries, along with China and India, in the world that have recorded good growth and its market is also developing. This assumption proofs by car sales in year 2008 reached almost 610,000 units and seen to 450,000 units in this year.
Mr. Dilip Chenoy said: “This condition has made the two India car makers, Tata and Mahindra interested to investing in Indonesia. They are now still studying the Indonesia auto market.”
The feasibility study would take three to six months and the result of feasibility study would also determine the model of cars to be produced and sale in market. If Tata and Mahindra & Mahindra invest and build vehicle plant, it’s good for Indonesian economic. Because the investment of one company potentially could reach more than USD 40 billion, for capacity 100,000 units/year.
Senior general manager for government affairs and collaborations of Tata Motor Limited, Amarjit Singh Puri said they have a whole products range. They will see what the Indonesia auto market expect and plan to look at this market very seriously.
Tata Motor already has a factory in Thailand. The production capacity of the plant is 25,000 units per year with a total investment of 1.5 billion baht. The vehicle plant establishes since mid of year 2008 and success to sale 1,000 units pick up in Thailand. Tata Motors has been able to as well make a super cheap car, the Tata Nano. India automotive company that has a factory in Indonesia is Bajaj Auto Limited and TVS Motor Limited, a motorcycle company.
