Toyota Kijang - Best Selling MPV in Indonesia

Toyota Kijang Innova has been present in Indonesia more than 30 years. This family car has been present since 1977 and Kijang Innova is the fifth generation that has accompanied the Indonesian family journey.

1st Generation of Toyota Kijang (1977 – 1980)

The car was first introduced on June 9, 1977 in a very simple form. Half-door pickup box, with side windows made of tarpaulin and plastic. Hinge door looks from the outside. Known as the Kijang Buaya equipped with 3K 1.2-litre engine. This car called as Kijang Buaya because the hood can be opened up to the side. The Sales of Kijang Buaya reached 26,806 units.

2nd Generation of Toyota Kijang (1981 – 1985)

In September 1981, the second generation with KF20 code was released on the market. This model known as Kijang Doyok that equipped with 3K-1300 cc engine. And in December 1985, PT TOYOTA ASTRA MOTOR launched Kijang 5K engine capacity 1500 cc. The Second-generation of Kijang succeeds sold 101,668 units.

3rd Generation of Toyota Kijang (1986-1996)

This generation is divided into two great periods, namely Kijang Super (1986-1992) and Kijang Grand (1992-1996). Kijang Grand generation was launched in August 1992, with Original Body Toyota Technology, in which the body-making process using a press machine power and 1500 tons of spot welding method (spot welding) is introduced. In 1995, a year before the end of this generation was launched Kijang KF42 and KF52 with 7K engine. Until replaced by the newer generation, third generation managed to record sales of 492,123 units.

4th Generation of Toyota Kijang (1997 – 2004)

In January 1997, PT TOYOTA ASTRA MOTOR launched the New Kijang. In this fourth generation, of the total change Kijang, more aerodynamic appearance with a smoother curve that is often called “Kijang Kapsul”. A month later, released version 2L diesel engine type with LF70 and LF80 code.

Kijang EFI 2000 cc capacity was launched in September 2000, with a new type engine, 1RZ-E for variant “Grand” and “Krista”. Since its launch until the end of the fourth-generation Kijang sales has reached 400 thousand units.

5th Generation of Toyota Kijang Innova (2004 – now)

This is the latest generation that experienced changes Toyota Kijang more beautiful in all its aspects, both interior and exterior. It’s a Beautiful Revolution. In this model, Toyota Kijang called as Kijang Innova. Since the introduction in end of 2004, the car sold more than 230 thousand units. Until now, Toyota Kijang Innova is a market leader in Medium MPV segment.
