Beside sold by sole distributor that incorporated in GAIKINDO (Gabungan Industri Kendaraan Bermotor Indonesia = Indonesian Automotive Association), many vehicles are sold through Independent Distributor (in Indonesian is called “Importir Umum” or IU) to Indonesia auto market. General Importer or independent showroom that incorporated in AIKI (Asosiasi Importir Kendaran Bermotor), Indonesian Automotive Association Importer, usually selling vehicle models that are not sold by the sole agent that GAIKINDO member.
Even if the same models, the IU usually sold with different specifications or different features and more interesting. In this time, Toyota Alphard, a famous and most favorite people mover or Multi Purpose Vehicle sold by PT. Toyota Astra Motor (sole distributor) and independent importer. Showroom of independent importer can sell 200 units Toyota Alphard per month while PT. Toyota Astra Motor as the sole authorized distributor only sells about 20 units. Even the Chairman of AIKI, Mr. Tommy R. Dwiananda informed that the sales of Toyota Alphard Velfire Z (newest models of Alphard) reached 300 units in August 2009.
It is estimated that the national automotive market will absorb about 2000 units Toyota Alphard in the year 2009. While in the year 2008 Alphard sold around 1700 units.
In the showroom of IU, Toyota Alphard sold at a price from Rp. 800 million up to 900 million, while the PT. TAM sell Alphard with three variants, namely: 2.4L-X : Rp. 800 million, 2.4L – G = Rp. 900 million and type 3.5L – V = Rp. 1.1 billion.
