Toyota and Daihatsu dominates Indonesia auto market

Actually, Indonesia cars sales in 2009 decrease -28% compare to same period in last year. From January to September 2009, sole distributor of GAIKINDO member books 337,470 units while from January to September 2008 achieved 467,187 units’ sales. Although the Indonesian automotive industry experienced a sharp decline due to global economic crisis, Toyota and Daihatsu actually increase their market share.

Compare to last year wholesales data, Toyota increase market share from 33.2% to 38.4 % in same period. Daihatsu that sale by PT. Astra Daihatsu Motor increase market share from 12.5% to 15.8%. It’s fantastic achievement while total domestic auto market has not recovered yet.

The increasing of Toyota cars sales due to Toyota Avanza, mainly MPV (Multi Purpose  Vehicle) from Toyota still remain as market leader in its segment. Even the sales of Toyota Avanza is increase to 71,724 units in period January to September 2009 while only books 60,104 units sales in same period of year 2008.

Likewise, the Daihatsu Xenia successful increases the sales by 25% of 22,098 units (year 2008) to 29.502 units in year 2009. The high of Xenia sales is biggest contribution to Daihatsu cars sales and making Mitsubishi overtake to rank 3. Besides Xenia, Daihatsu also managed to record high sales for other product i.e. Luxio, GranMax, Terios and Sirion.
