MPV market increase to 47.5% from last year sales

2009 cars sales in Indonesia reached 486,061 units or decrease 20% from 607,770 units in year 2008. Despite decline, but some of the national automobile industry observers argue that this is the best achievement of the national auto market. Amid the world economic crisis that has not recovered, car sales had exceeded initial estimates by GAIKINDO that only expected to sell 430K units or fell 30%.

One of the car vehicles a very attractive by Indonesian consumers are seven-seater family car or MPV, Multi Purpose Vehicle. Refer to GAIKINDO report that received by Indonesia-cars com, seven-seater family car able to sell up to 230,990 units or 47.5% from total automobile industry. This figure exceeds the MPV car sales in 2008 which reached 230K units that only 38% of total cars sales in year 2008 (607K units).

This could be because the cars MPV is compatible with the character of Indonesian consumers. Read more…

After exporting Honda Freed to Singapore and Brunei automobile market, PT. Honda Prospect Motor plan to deliver 1,000 units Freed to Thailand automobile market. This is the first largest export Honda Freed produced in Indonesia. Honda factory in Karawang – Indonesia is trusted by Honda to be the principal production base of this Honda MPV pride to the ASEAN region (Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippine, and others).

The car export of Honda Freed to Thailand is scheduled today, Monday, December 14, 2009. Freed produced in Karawang – West Java already has a local content to 45%. Local components to be placed in 1.5-liter MPV is among tires, glass, seats, and rubbers.

PT. Proton Edar Indonesia, sole distributors of Proton cars in Indonesia, is now preparing Proton Exora, and plan to launch at Indonesia International Motor Show 2009 by July 24, 2009. After release in Malaysia domestic market on April 15, 2009, Proton Exora expects to get some “delicious pie” in Indonesia auto market especially in MPV market segment. Proton Exora is first MPV has been made by Proton, a Malaysia car maker.

In Malaysia domestic market, it’s competing with Toyota Avanza 1.5L, Nissan Grand Livina 1.6L, Toyota Wish, and Toyota Kijang Innova 2.0L. Proton Exora available in 2 variants, that M-Line AT (RM 69,998) and H-Line AT (RM 75,998).
