Indonesia Cars Sales Books New Records

The Indonesian economy continues to grow and one indicator is cars sales on June 2010 reached 69,500 units. These cars sales report are according to information from one of Indonesia Automotive Association member (GAIKINDO). This sales volume is also the highest monthly sales record in the history of Indonesia cars sales. The previous record in April 2010 is only 65,500 units. Although, we compared to the previous month is increase of 16% from 60,500 unit’s sales in May 2010.

Meanwhile, for retail cars sales, or based on delivery car from dealer to customers, reportedly also increased and reaching 66,300 units or an increase of 13 percent compared to May 2010 with sales of 58,800 units. With this addition, total cars sales in the first half of 2010 have reached 369,300 units or an increase of 76% over the year 2009 in the same period.

According to some of car dealers in Jakarta, the car demand continued to strengthen since the beginning of the year. The cause is a stable exchange rate of Indonesian Rupiah against the dollar and low interest rates of car loan. Higher wholesale in June 2010 also indicate the car maker and car dealer preparation to face the Fasting & Idul Fitri holidays because several months earlier confirmed the demand will increase.

For Indonesian people, the Fasting Month and Idul Fitri/Lebaran are special days. It is traditional in Indonesia in the Lebaran, the car market will increase. For the two months before the day, the car makers have increased the supply. With this car sales achievement, GAIKINDO prediction that total car sales in Indonesia this year could be realized through the 650K units or 700K units. More precisely, there is an increase 34 percent over the previous year.
