2010 Indonesia Cars Sales – 1st Quarter increase 73%

Indonesia cars sales in the 1st quarter of 2010 reached 173,700 units or an increase of 73% of car sales in the same period last year. The data is based on data obtained from GAIKINDO wholesales (Indonesia Automotive Association); while slightly lower retailsales reaching 165,800 units. In March 2010 alone, the total national auto sales reached 65,500 units wholesales and 63,500 units retailsales. For your information, that wholesales is delivery new car from sole distributor to dealers while retailsales is delivery new car from dealer to its customer.

The high national car sales this early in the year 2010 makes the cars makers in the Indonesian automobile industry optimists can increase sales up 20% from the year 2009. It is estimated that cars sales in Indonesia in 2010 may reach 600 thousand units. Target is expected to be achieved if the positive trends shown at the beginning of this year can be maintained; the rupiah continues to strengthen against dollar, low interest rates and inflation, which can be suppressed. New MPV Models in 2009

Most of New Models in 2009 are MPV

Regarding with the fact that Indonesia auto market is characteristically dominated by MPV models, whereas Thailand is by double cabin (Pick Up/SUV) and Malaysia by sedan, most of the new models in 2009 are Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV).

PT. Astra Daihatsu Motors, distributors of Daihatsu cars in Indonesia, for example has just introduced Daihatsu Luxio, a low MPV model with price range are from Rp. 136,000,000.- to Rp. 165,000,000.-. Meanwhile, PT. Indomobil Suzuki International, distributors of Suzuki cars, is boating Suzuki APV Luxury, a most luxurious variants of APV.

Distributors of Honda cars in Indonesia, PT. Honda Prospect Motor, whose MPV has long been absent from domestic auto market, is now preparing Honda Freed, a new model that automotive reviewers see as the successor of Honda Stream. Honda Freed already introduced to the media in March 2009 and plan to launch by June 2009. Honda Freed use 1.5-litre engine, electric door, same platform with Honda Jazz, and price estimate about Rp. 240 million.

PT. Proton Edar Indonesia, distributors of Proton, cars maker from Malaysia, is now planning to introduce Proton Exora to Indonesia auto market. Exora has just launch in Malaysia domestic market by April 2009, and plan to launch in Indonesia by June 2009. With full completed feature and affordable price, Proton Exora hope can take a few market shares in MPV segment.

In Malaysia domestic market, Exora available in 2 variants, both of automatic transmission with selling price MYR 70,000.- and MYR 76,000.-. (Rp. 210,000,000 and Rp. 230,000,000).

Last but not the least, Volkswagen, Germany cars maker, through PT. Garuda Mataram Motors, distributors in Indonesia, plan to launch new MPV, Volkswagen Touran with 1.4litre engine equipped twin turbo. Its make MPV segment have more players. Surely the most beneficial party in these launching plans is the Indonesian public.  As there are more options thus able to compare the most specifications, features and the most suitable price.
